Five tower defence mistakes we all make

Five tower defence mistakes we all make

March 21, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Almost everyone starts tower defence games the same wrong way: building the strongest single tower they can afford and clustering everything in one corner. It feels safe. It isn't.

The first fix is spreading coverage. A chokepoint with three cheap towers usually beats one expensive one, because overlapping fire clears waves before they bunch up. We've watched countless runs saved by a second-row support tower nobody wanted to pay for.

Next is ignoring enemy types. Flying units, armoured units and fast swarms each punish a lazy single-strategy layout. Keep one tower type for each threat, even if it means skipping an upgrade.

The third habit is upgrading too early. Saving for the next tower slot often beats boosting one you already have. Economy management is half the genre.

Finally, people forget to reposition and sell. If a tower is doing nothing, it's just frozen money. Selling and rebuilding mid-level isn't cheating, it's the point.
